Bilingual Edition -- Edición Bilingüe

Vol. I - No. 1 - 2018

A note from the Gabriela Mistral Foundation, Inc.

When trying to trace back to the first things that marked Gabriela when she was a young girl named Lucila, undoubtedly we find that one of them was the Bible, from the one, as she remarked “I would eat my whole life.” We see this influence reflected in her body of work, her writings in defense of humanity and of the Jewish People—one of the few Latin American intellectuals of her time that defended the Jewish people before and after World War II.

Mistral only went to Israel by reading the Bible and in her dreams—these, she left for us in her poetry and prose. Perhaps it is now the task of the Foundation that bears her name, to bring her to Israel through our mission, work and commitment—undertakings that are only possible thanks to the collaboration and support of many.
