On February 10, 2017 the Gabriela Mistral Foundation, Inc. with generous support from L. N. Curtis and LATAM Cargo shipped a donation consisting of over 500 lbs --a pallet of 13 boxes- of fire-fighting clothing to benefit the Fire Department in the City of Concepcion, which has 10 Fire Companies serving a large community. .
Upon the donation's arrival, and in colaboration with ADRA Chile, the donation was transported to the city of Concepcion, located approximately 310 miles south of the capital of Chile, Santiago.
Mrs. Maria Grasso, VP of the Gabriela MIstral Foundation, Inc. and a representative of ADRA Chile will present this donation to the Chief of the Fire Department of the City of Concepcion. The donation be distributed to the Fire Departments of the Great Concepcion Metropolitan area.
This donation, an initiative of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation, Inc. was only possible by the extraordinary generosity, work and commitment of the people of our partners: L. N. Curtis, LATAM CARGO and ADRA Chile. After countless emails, phone calls and great coordination we were able to reach our goal: to be able to help, hoping that in a far away land, a group of people feel a great bond and love for the Chile, the land of Gabriela.
In the year that commemorates the 50th anniversary of Mistral's "Poem of Chile," the country she so greatly loved suffered devastating losses. It is in Mistral's honor and continuing her humanitarian help to those in need that we offer this donation.

In January 2017, Chile was confronted with some of the worst forest fires in its history that affected not the precious native forests, but the lives and livehoods of the most important treasure that Chile has--its people, its children. The fires not only took away the ancient forests that are such an integral part of what defines the regions affected but also, the residents way of life and their possesions.
What this tragedy has left them with is an inmense sense of loss and despair; for the children this situation is most delicate as they lost not only what they had but also the only things they ever knew.
But despite these great losses, they also found the spirit of solidarity from their fellow Chileans and from the world.
In the year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the publication of Gabriela Mistral's "Poema de Chile," our foundation, felt the need and obligation to offer our help to the land of Gabriela. We recognize and praise the outstanding work that fire fighters do each day, and their magnificent work during this difficult time.
We are grateful to our partner organizations with whom we work to make this donation a reality, and to the friends of the Foundation. This has been a collaborative project with one common goal: to deliver this donation that comes from a faraway land and that it is an initiative of a group of people that always have Chile in their hearts.

Los incendios no solo arrasaron bosques milenarios que son parte integral de lo que define a la región afectada, pero sus estilos de vida y sus posesiones.
Lo que esta tragedia les ha dejado, es un inmenso sentido de perdida y desesperación; para los niños, esta situación es incluso más delicada ya que perdieron no solo lo que tenían, sino que lo único que conocían.
A pesar de estas grandes pérdidas, también encontraron el sentido de solidaridad de sus compatriotas y del mundo.
En el año en el que celebramos el 60avo aniversario de la publicación del “Poema de Chile” de Gabriela Mistral, nuestra fundación, tuvo el deseo y la obligación de ofrecer ayuda a la tierra de Gabriela. DONACION A CUERPO DE BOMBEROS DE CONCEPCION
Gabriela Mistral Foundation, Inc., L. N. CURTIS,
y LATAM CARGO, en colaboración con ADRA Chile
entregan importante donación al
Cuerpo de Bomberos de Concepción
NUEVA YORK, febrero 13, 2017 -- En razón de los catastróficos incendios que han afectado a distintas zonas de Chile durante las últimas semanas, el directorio de Gabriela Mistral Foundation, Inc, con el generoso apoyo de L. N. Curtis & Sons y LATAM CARGO, en colaboración con ADRA Chile, tiene el agrado de anunciar la entrega de una importante donación que será destinada al Cuerpo de Bomberos de Concepción. La donación consiste en más 500 libras de enseres de manufactura especial para uso de las compañías de bomberos del Gran Concepción. Los artículos incluyen: guantes, botas, cascos, máscaras, pantalones, etc. –un total de 423 artículos con un valor total de aproximadamente US$25,000.00. La Sra. María Grasso, Vice Presidenta de GMF hará entrega de esta donación al Sr. Rubén Panés Bunster, Superintendente de Bomberos de Concepción el día jueves 16 de febrero a las 11:00 horas en la sede de la Iglesia Adventista: Ribera Norte 950, Concepción.
