2018
Continuing with the commitment of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation, Inc. to participate and collaborate with the Gabriela Mistral Campus, 2018 was a very exciting year for the students at the Campus.
Our collaboration with administrators and faculty in the areas of Literature, the Arts, Music and other areas.
APRIL 2018
The Second Annual Gabriela Mistral Poetry & Essay Contest at the Gabriela Mistral Campus was a great success!
Students were able to submit their entries from February 15 - March 20, 2018.
This year's jury included members of the faculty and administration of the Gabriela Mistral Campus and members of the Board of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation --Mrs. Maria Grasso, Mrs. Norah Valentina and Mrs. Gloria Garafulich-Grabois .
The entry were divided the entries in two groups and each group was awarded a First, Second and Third Prize and Honorary Mentions. All participating students received a Certificate of Participation.
The award ceremony was held on April 7, 2017 at the school and it celebrated not only all the students who participated but the entire school celebrated Gabriela Mistral’s 129th. birthday—it was a great celebration with cake and balloons!
We are grateful to the staff and students of the Gabriela Mistral Campus and to the children’s parents for encouraging them to participate and for their assistance.
JUNE 2018
With the desire and the goal of establishing a Chess Program at the Gabriela Mistral Campus, with our Honorary Board Member and Chess Master, Ms. Beatriz Marinello, the Gabriela Mistral Foundation donated a giant CHESS SET to the Campus. A permanent chess board has been painted in the patio area of the Campus and from now on the students will be able to learn and enjoy playing with this great set.
We are grateful to Ms. Marinello and the administration of the Gabriela Mistral Campus.
SEPTEMBER 2018
On September 22, 2018--Mrs. Cecilia Morel, the First Lady of the Republic of chile, paid a special visit to the Gabriela Mistral Campus in Corona Queens County, NY. Mrs. Morel's visit celebrated the second anniversary of the inauguration of the Gabriela Mistral Campus and the closing event of the tenth anniversary of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation.
Over 200 hundred guests--including students, parents, authorities of the Board of Education of the City of New York; local city and county authorities and representatives of the Borough of Queens; authorities and representatives of Chile, and special guests attended this special event.
The First Lady spent time with students of various grades, as well as with teachers and administrators. A group of Student Ambassadors gave the First Lady a tour of the Campus.
We are most grateful to the First Lady of Chile, Mrs. Cecilia Morel for her interest and support of the promotion of the life and work of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation and the work of the Gabriela Mistral Campus.
