Activities of the

Gabriela Mistral Foundation & the Gabriela Mistral Campus

2016

Since the start of the 2016-2017 academic year, the Gabriela Mistral Foundation, Inc. as part of its commitment withe the Gabriela Mistral Campus, began a series of activities and projects in collaboration with the school.

 

SEPTEMBER 7, 2016

Before the school year started, on September 7, 2016, the Gabriela Mistral Foundation, Inc. made a special presentation and lecture to all the members of the faculty and administration of the school. This presentation centered on the figure of Gabriela Mistral and her literary and humanitarian legacies as well as her work as a teacher and the impact her writings and thought had and continues to have in today's world. Following this presentation, and as one of the first assignments to students the teachers introduced G. Mistral to the students and a special Mistral lesson was included in the curriculum.

SEPTEMBER 8 - 19, 2016

The special Mistral activity was done with the students. They worked on different aspects of Mistral's life and work.  The work will be part of a special exhibit at the inauguration and at the school. Please see photo gallery below.

OCTOBER - NOVEMBER, 2016
Video exchange project of students of the Gabriela Mistral Campus, Corona and Escuela Gabriela Mistral, Montegrande.

Project: Students of each school will work on and prepare a short introductory video of their school and their area. 

A special "joint simultaneous" activity will take place in early December.

DECEMBER 12, 2016

Video Exchange Activity was held simultaneously via Skype with students of both schools. Each school viewed each other's video and afterwards a lively and interesting conversation started with the students of both schools. Please see link to videos below.

DECEMBER 20, 2016

Special Event: Celebrating Gabriela Mistral

A Special Concert with: Jose Riveros, Pianist, Los Jaivas & Juan P Bosco, Percussionist

Presented by: Gabriela Mistral Foundation, Inc. - Fundacion Los Jaivas - Consulate General of Chile in New York  and the Gabriela Mistral Campus, NY

Messrs. Riveros and Bosco generously offered a concert at the school and during the day visited with different classes and the school's music teachers.  The concert was enjoyed by all and it was a great opportunity to introduce them to the music of Los Jaivas, most specially the album "Mamalluca" inspired in Gabriela Mistral and the Elqui Valley.

We are grateful to Messrs. Riveros and Bosco for their time, interest and enthusiasm to offer this great opportunity;to the Hon. Francisco del Campo, Consul General of New York; to Ms. Beth Hert, Principal and Ms. Amanda Gardner, Assistant Principal of the Gabriela Mistral Campus; to all the teachers and to the wonderful students.
